#SomebodyLikeMe HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign

Each of us have the right to say NO to HIV/AIDS!

Last month I been posting some questions on my Facebook which to many this is a sensitive topic and someone even message and asked me why am I talking about it openly. Well the truth is I am participating with Durex’s #SOMEBODYLIKEME World AIDS Day Campaign to raise public awareness on how HIV can be contracted and what a young adult should know about sex protection. And I am glad to participate in this campaign because I have learn so much truth to clear my doubts on HIV/AIDS. It's

The #SOMEBODYLIKEME Campaign is just the beginning and the common vision of a HIV/AIDS-free generation is only attainable if all of us ensure a continuous education process.

And in the conjunction with World AIDS Day, Reckitt Benckiser’s Durex Malaysia (Durex) contributed RM8,000 and 50,000 pieces of Durex condoms to PT Foundation, Malaysia’s largest community-based HIV/AIDS organisation. The donations were raised in collaboration with retail giants Watsons Malaysia and Guardian Pharmacy Malaysia in support of PT Foundation’s on-going HIV/AIDS advocacy work and education programmes in Malaysia.

The fundraising initiative was part of Durex’s #SOMEBODYLIKEME World AIDS Day Campaign. As part of the on-going charity drive, Durex has pledged to one piece of condom with every pack of Durex condoms purchased at Watsons and RM0.20 per pack purchased at Guardian was channelled to PT Foundation. #SOMEBODYLIKEME Campaign is month-long campaign launched on 15th November 2013 aimed at educating Malaysian youths on HIV/AIDS.

Over and above the fundraising effort, the #SOMEBODYLIKEME campaign also saw Durex working in collaboration with prominent social influencers on social media to educate youths on HIV/AIDS. Personalities including, Yang Berbahagia Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Niki Cheong, Reuben Kang, KlubbKidd KL aka Joe Lee, Audrey Pui Yan, Karena Cheow, Hanie Hidayah and Christopher Tock have been posting provocative statements and questions regarding HIV/AIDS on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blogs and YouTube, to encourage conversation among youths while reinforcing the fact that HIV/AIDS can infect and affect anyone, including ‘somebody like me'.

And as one of the social media influencers, I posted some questions in my Facebook on questions related to HIV/AIDS.

Surprisingly some of them are really open in sharing about their opinions. Though some are joking about this issues but the fact that they are willing to talk discuss about it is a good sign. To me this is a health issue that one need to be learn and need not be afraid because, with proper education and information we could protect ourselves.

Nelson Mandela dedicated his whole life improving the conditions and lives of children and youth which are affected HIV/AIDS. Although we may not be as influential as him but we can also take plays a part in creating a change and awareness.

Mandela once said "It is in your hands to make a difference."

Yes it's #SOMEBODYLIKEME and YOU that can make a difference for a better tomorrow!

I was one of the 7230 people who joined Avon Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Walk!

Cindy, Wendy, Daniel (my head eater), me & Shannon

Last Sunday, me & a bunch of bloggers dressed in pink joined Avon's charity fun walk called “Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer” in Putrajaya! To be honest this is my first time waking up so early for a charity walk! I gotta to wake up at 5am (after sleeping for 2 hours after attending the NTV Golden Awards in Putrajaya the night before) so that we can reach Putrajaya Prescint 3 by 7am for registration! Well since this is a 5km walk, I decided to use our Samsung Galaxy SIII to capture picture instead of carrying my bulky dlsr camera!

Looked at the thousands of people who are there to join this meaningful walk!

I'm seeing the young, the old, family and couple all joining this meaningful walk

Avon did a great job hiring few clowns to cheer up us! Making us balloon and funny face to cheer up our Sunday!

Breast cancer survivors with poster thanking walkers for joining this walk!

Before we could start the walk,  there are Zumba dance for warm up!

Celebrities looked so energectic while doing zumba dance!

These survivors looked equally energetic and having fun while doing the zumba dance too!

Spotted Avon's ANEW Ambasaddor Soo Wincci & Master Chef Datuk Fazley! They are so popular at the walk, fans are grabbing them to take pictures all the time!

Spotted clebrities like May June who is in pretty purple ombre hair!

We are ready for the walk!

Spot that Shannon wearing skirt & bunny ears somemore, she said 5km is very short walk only -.- (for her yes lah considering she is joining marathon and run all the time)

At 8.30am, Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Heng Sai Kie & Carolyn Nur Amira Lee, Managing Director Avon Malaysia officially flag of the walk!

It was a relaxing walk since there is no prize for people who finish the walk the fastest.

Looked how our fellow bloggers friends still managed to pose & take pictures!

Spotted many kids dressed in Superheroes costume doing their charity walk too!

We are lucky because weather is good & it was pretty nice to have morning walk here because air is fresh! Besides that we enjoyed a fun walking experience throughtout the 5km journey where we are entertained & cheered by an eclectic mix of groups such as :-

Creative cheer station!

We are cheered by these colourful poster with cheesy message to support us continue walking!

Ukelele players too!

Guards with horses guarding the walk

BSE (Breast Self Examination) Human Statues, encouraging us to do self-examination on our breast. Prevention is always better than cure!

Stress Free Zone; laughter is the best medicine!

One of th major caused of sickness is our stress level. So we must learn to breathe in and out!

I of course took the opportunity to take picture at all corner, I think this is my first time enjoying the Putrajaya view in such a slow pace!

JQ & Me , having own sweet taking picture, chating while walking! I must say this is one of the most fun & pleasant charity walk I have ever been too!

Yay finally I finished Avon's Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer 5km walk!!!! So proud of myself!

After the walk, we are entertained by a couple of songs from Soo Wincci. She really sings well in her Malay songs!

Thumb up to Avon for donating RM50k to Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BWA) and Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation!

 Pic taken from JQ's blog

Besides that our blogger friend Daniel is one of the 10 heroes who volunteer himself to be shaved  Bald on the event by Michael & Guy Hair Salon & Academy team! This is to support & understand how breast cancer patients feel when they lose their hair during treatment. Thumb up to Daniel for being so brave and do it for charity even though I at first I thought he was joking when he tweet me and said he want to go bald for charity!
Was glad to know this walk is currently being endorsed by the Malaysian Book of Recods for the Larest Participation Breast Cancer Charity Walk in Malaysia!!! I was really surprised when I knew that more than 7,230 people came for the walk!

After the performances, Madam Siow, 41 a breast cancer survivor & mother of 3 young kids shared her experience when she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.  These survivors are real winners!

Women out there, remember in order to kiss goodbye to breast cancer, we must
Do self examination at home regularly!
Go yearly medical check up!
Have good lifestyle & diet!
Stay happy & stress free all the time!

Early detection saves life, spread the words!

Support Estee Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign!

I am proud that I have just completed my first breast cancer charity walk for this year in Putrajaya last Sunday!

Well this year is Estee Lauder Companies 20th anniversary of its global Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign. The 2012 Campaign theme is Courage. Believe in a world without breast cancer. This year‟s bold, empowering message highlights the Company‟s 20 year commitment to defeating breast cancer through education and medical research and celebrates the life and legacy of BCA Campaign Founder and Pink Ribbon co-creator, Mrs. Evelyn H. Lauder

This milestone BCA Campaign is dedicated to the tremendous courage of Evelyn Lauder and her unwavering commitment to eradicate breast cancer. In 1992, during a time when thousands were dying from the disease yet it was only spoken about in whispers, she launched the Estée Lauder Companies‟ BCA Campaign to raise awareness for the disease, encouraging women everywhere to practice breast health, while working tirelessly to raise funds for the critical research needed to find a cure.

Twenty years later, the BCA Campaign continues to carry on Evelyn Lauder‟s mission, inspiring women and men alike to find the courage and encourage others to tenaciously fight for a world free of breast cancer. The BCA Campaign is active today in more than 70 countries, has raised more than USD$35 million to fund 140 Breast Cancer Research Foundation® grants for medical research and this year alone supports 13 research grants across the globe. The BCA Campaign will continue spreading its lifesaving awareness message globally in the hope of a world in which breast cancer no longer exists.

DURING OCTOBER 2012, THE BCA CAMPAIGN WILL:
Reach countless people worldwide. In 2011 alone, The BCA Campaign touched millions through its press outreach with its lifesaving awareness message.

Distribute millions of the iconic BCA Pink Ribbons at the counters of the Estée Lauder Companies‟ brands worldwide, adding to the 115 million Pink Ribbons distributed to date.

Spread the word about early detection and breast health globally, adding to the millions of educational bookmarks and brochures distributed to date.

Offer Pink Ribbon products through many of the Estée Lauder Companies‟ sought-after beauty brands to raise funds for medical research. 

Illuminate numerous buildings, monuments and landmarks all over the world in glowing pink lights, focusing attention on the importance of breast health and that early detection saves lives. In 2010, the BCA Campaign proudly established a first-ever Guinness World Record for “Most Landmarks Illuminated for a Cause in 24 Hours.”

Activate high-profile influencers worldwide as Ambassadors for The Campaign‟s World Pink Ribbon Ambassador (WPRA) Initiative.

To help fund the programme, Malaysians are invited to make a donation of RM50 whereby the Estée Lauder Companies Malaysia will then match the total amount donated for this programme. Donations can be made at any Estée Lauder Companies Malaysia‟s brands in Parkson stores nationwide until 31st October 2012.

Last but not least is BCBGMAXAZRIA‟s generous support whereby part of their sales for the month of October will be donated to the Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Awareness fund. And as an added incentive to support the cause, nett purchases of RM1,000 and above will receive a limited edition BCBGMAXAZRIA „Courage‟ sunglasses which is specially designed again this year in lieu of the fight against breast cancer.

Funds raised from the Pink Ribbon Charity Golf as well as other charitable activities during the Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Campaign will go towards this year‟s beneficiaries, which are The Breast Cancer Welfare Association, The Cancer Research Initiatives Foundation, The College of Radiology Malaysia and The National Cancer Society Malaysia.
