L'OCCITANE Charity For The Blind

L’OCCITANE Malaysia continues to light a flame of hope for the less fortunate ones, having successfully raised a total of RM40,000 from its signature charity fundraising project and also proud to have another 5,000 euro (RM21,285) co-funded by L’OCCITAN FOUNDATION France.

L’OCCITANE kick-started its charity fundraising on 9th October last year in conjunction with International World Sight Day, where limited edition I Care About Sight Tote Bag were sold at all L’OCCITANE Boutiques for RM20 each.

RM20,000 has been channelled to upgrade MAB’s Orientation and Mobility Classroom in its Kinta Valley Centre, Ipoh, with a Braille globe, Braille maps, Braille tiles and tactile stone path. Other proposed mobility equipment include white canes, normal canes and a voice-activated cane, so that the blind and visually-impaired will have the opportunity to expose themselves to more knowledge and practical skills.

Another portion of the funds – RM20,000 and  co-fund of RM21,285 was used to support Pastry Training Programme at St Nicholas’ Home, which allows blind and visually-impaired trainees obtain proper training in baking skills, allowing them to polish their interpersonal skills and pursue careers in the field of baking.

“L’OCCITANE Malaysia initiated its local CSR effort six years ago to offer an equal learning opportunity for both blind and partially sighted children and adults to acquire knowledge. “The newly introduced Pastry Training Program will definitely help to provide a greater and better learning ground to the visually impaired people to enhance their capability at work and thus they are able to live independently and also contribute to the society”, said Mr. Tan Seong Teck, GM of L’OCCITANE.

“This is the second time we are extending our supports to St Nicholas Home, Penang. By helping to create awareness and raise funds on behalf of the visually-impaired, we’re able to provide them with more opportunities to improve their lives. We hope to continue this noble effort in a sustainable manner” commented Ms Clarance Boo, PR Manager of L’OCCITANE during her recent visit to St Nicholas’ Home, Penang.

The official launch of Project Hope, initiated by World Maketing Summit 2013.

Few days ago I attended Project HopeE is hoping to give children from schools, orphanages and NGOs coming from Peninsular as well as Sabah & Sarawak to express their hopes, dreams through arts and craft!

100 children from 4 orphanages chosen orphanage home between aged 8 - 12 years old around Malaysia was brought in for Project Hope launch. Thanks to Airasia, some 40 one were flew in to KL for the event and those children are so excited because it was their first stepping into a plane!

Besides that these children were also treated to 3 days of fun activities & unforgettable experiences, from playing football with professional footballers and coaches (courtesy of Dream Asia, Asian Football Federation), free medical checkups courtesy of Columbia Asia, Setapak and tours of Kuala Lmpur to meeting world-renown Malaysia idols.

Dr. Marceline Lemarie, Organising Chairperson of World Marketing Summit Malaysia 2013 giving her opening speech.

“Project Hope, an integral initiative of the World Marketing Summit Malaysia 2013, is very happy to be able to provide less-privileged children the opportunity to have better futures by exposing them to inspirational personalities as well as aspirational activities. Additionally, the WMSM2013 is very excited to have international brands participating in our mission – it is precisely this mindset of creating a better world through marketing that we want to cultivate with marketers throughout the world: that profit & purpose should co-exist, and that social purpose is the new DNA of business. The delivery of the UN’s MDGs rests on public-private partnership – the shared responsibility of the private and public sector to lift the socio-economic status of the less fortunate resides at the very core of MDGs,” said chairperson of WMS Malaysia 2013, Dr.Marceline Lemarie.

Few VIPs who turned up to be supportive are  En Mansor Abdul Latiff, Generarketing & CSR, Asian Football Confederation; Dr Annathurai, Head of CSR, Asian Football Federation; Christoper Huehn, Christian Rehren, Ambassador of Chile Malaysia to Malaysia, Tom Abang Saufi and Donne Ray of the Platters.

These children is our future and the only way for them to get out of poverty is through education. Hence Project Hope addressed two of the United Nation's MDGs: Eradicating Exterme Poverty & Hunger (MDG1) and Achieving Primary Education (MDG2).

As part of the Project Hope, a selection of the 100 art pieces by the children will be auctioned to participants of the World Marketing Summit Malaysia which would be happening this 28 - 30 September 2013. All the proceeds will be channeled back to the children's homes. Additionally, the three children with the highest bids on their art pieces will receive a fixed deposit in their names which will be made available to them when they reach 18 years old. The winner will receive RM5,000, the runner up RM2,000 and second runner up RM1,000. WMSM 2013 will continue to check in on these children, following up on their development as they grow on their journey.

An extension of Project Hope, 8 BILLION was also launched at the event. 8 BILLON will see the participation of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from Malaysia to build a sustainable programme to benefit these less-privileged children. The support of the local SMEs in 8 BILLION will increase reach and sustainability of Project Hope’s efforts to address MDGs 1 and 2 (Eradicating Extreme Poverty & Hunger and Achieving Universal Primary Education).

Donne Ray was singing to the media & children after the presentation, ohhhhh his voice is so mesmerizing!

I remembered that  he sang "Smoke Gets in your Eyes" and "Only You" , and these are my favourite songs!

Suddenly Mr Bean turned up, look how excited the children are!

He does look like the real Mr Bean, Rowan Atkinson!

Even his expression looked like the real one!!

Of course he still have his bear with!

SIGN Petition to STOP SEX TRAFFICKING! I have signed it, have you ?

Many women and girls went around the world away from their home to look for job. All they hope for is to bring back a small earning to bring back home for their family.

And the worst nightmare came when these poor women / girls are being cheated or force to be sex slavery.

They are locked behind the doors/bars to prevent them from running away.

No one heard their cries

I discovered Malaysia is primarily a destination but also a source country for human trafficking. And from 2008 until March 15 this year showed that there were 202 human trafficking cases with 282 people arrested while 1,252 were rescued. And most of these women are force to be a sex slave .

Note : Prostituted persons are mainly adult women, but there are also male, transvestite and child prostitutes, both girls and boys.

Today Anita Roddickk, the founder of Body Shop has called for a petition to call for Action .

I have signed it , have you ?

Take a minute to make a difference !

Time to STOP SEX TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE.

THEY ARE OUR FUTURE.

Just take a minute to key in your details to support for this petition!

They need your support!
