GST Simplified

Malaysians have been hearing these words GST for several years now and some still can’t make sense of it. What exactly is it and how will it affect your life. Here is a simple explanation to make sure you are prepared for it when the GST is implemented in the future.

GST basically means Goods And Services Tax, a form of taxation that covers goods and services. It will replace the existing current sales tax (five to ten percent) and the services tax (six percent).

We are all familiar with taxes, as we pay all kinds as good citizens. We have the income tax, road tax, property tax, business tax which the government uses to develop the nation, for the economic welfare, pay for our children education so there is no school fees, pay for civil service, medical services and many other uses to make our lives more pleasant and easier.

There is more to taxes than just development. It also plays a role to reduce economic inequality and increases economic efficiency. This occurs when goods that are taxable are traded less in view of the tax burden. 

The local trader gains when imported goods are taxed – as it encourages more people to buy the cheaper local goods. This is an essential trade strategy used by nations worldwide to protect the interest of its locals.

Then there is excise duty which is levied on alcoholic beverages and cigarettes Added tax burden ensures that drinking and smoking don’t proliferate in the country that it would hurt social development.

The proposed GST is adapted on the model practiced in 160 countries. It has been tested and proven to work in many developed countries such as in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and prove to work well in modern economies.

The reason for the introduction of GST is because the inherent weaknesses in the structure and the implementation of Sales Tax and Service Tax. For example, the current system at times results in a cascading effect where an item may be taxed twice. Other weaknesses include the ‘pyramiding effect’ where business along the distribution chain will normally apply mark-up on the tax element and the cost of product sold.

The GST affects a broader tax base because any consumer who consumed taxable goods and services will have to pay GST.

After searching high and low, I finally found my favourite Tiffany blue shade from China Glaze! 

This China Glaze For Audrey is a really gorgeous turquoise blue/ aqua/ mint green (or better known as Tiffany blue) nail lacquer which is inspired by Audrey Hepburn's movie Breakfast at Tiffany.

Part of my nails colour on the nails colour wheel so that it's easier for me to look for the colour I want to apply! 

Believe it or not, although I have more than 70 nail polish bottles (I know I'm crazy) lying around at home but I am not an expert in applying nail polish. There are some bad days where I could remove and reapply over and again. 

Review and Swatch of China Glaze For Audrey

I was really happy to find that China Glaze For Audrey's texture was creamy and pigmented. It was really easy to apply and I could even pass with 1 coating *so proud of myself*. And the 2nd coating was to make sure I have an even finishing & shine  I think the nail polish texture & brush was really good for this colour hence it was a breeze to apply. 

If you read the labelled this comes with a hardener hence it would have the benefits of strengthening the nails, resistance to chipping and colour fading! Not only that China Glaze colours are free of DBP, Toluene and added Formaldehyde. And it uses China Clay as a nail hardener instead

And I applied my nail polish last Thursday and until today (5 days and still counting), the colour stay on so well without any chipping because I also used Seche Clear Base Coat & Seche Vita Dry Fast Top Coat this time around! I absolutely love their fast drying top coat - if you love applying nail polish ... you got to own this!

Review : Cefenere Fair Passion skincare series

Few months ago I was given a set of Cefenere products to try after a skin consultation and was supposed to post this review last month but was really busy with work..Anyway back to my story, Cefenere is a local skincare brand that is formulated in France promises a total skin makeover in just 7 days. My main concern for my skin is always dehydration and pigmentation.  

I was recommended to use the Fair Passion series which has Alpha Arbutin, PHA, and Vitamin C, will help to reduce pigmentation and brighten up skin tone. And Perpetual Essence which contains hyaluronic acid will help to hydrate my skin.

Cefenere Fair Passion E-Sense Serum is a brightening serum will also help in treating pigmentation. It will restores glow for a fairer appearance. 

Active Ingredients: Purified water, Phenonip, Sodium Hyaluronate, Alpha Arbutin, Seaweed extract, Alpha-D Glucoside. 

Usage Direction : On a cleansed skin, apply a thin layer and smoothen it evenly. Avoid eye contact. For optimum result, apply Ultralizing Cream immediately after E-Sense Serum.

Cefenere Fair Passion Perpetual Essence is a hydration serum which will  help to hydrate the skin and encourage moisture retention effectively. It prevents premature aging thus creating a youthful appearance.

Cefenere Fair Passion E-Sense Serum ( RM169/15ml) texture feel like oil based serum when I applied on my skin but as I massaged it into my skin, it absorbs quickly without leaving my skin feeling greasy.

Cefenere Fair Passion Perpetual Serum (RM99/15ml) texture is more watery and could feel the skin is softer & moist after applying. Though the skin feel sticky for a liittle while after application, it gone after a while. 

Overall review : This two serums can be used separately by layering on top of each other or mix (one drop each and mix before applying). Usually I take my sweet time when applying my serum, I will warm it up with my palm before massaging as I applied it on my skin. I prefer to apply Perpetual Serum before I apply E-serum as I like hydration serum to absorb first before layering with others.

Cefenere Fair Passion Clarifying Sunshield is a day cream that helps to diminish  pigmentation while providing protection against UV rays for a fairer skin. 

Active Ingredients: Deionized Water, Polyoxyethylene, OctylPalmitate, Magnesium Stearate, Jojoba Oil, Glycerol, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide,Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol. 

Usage Direction : Apply a layer and smoothen it evenly. Use E-Sense Serum before applying for best result. 

Cefenere Fair Passion Ultralizing Cream is a night cream which contains anti-pigmentation ingredients which resulting in a flawless and brighter skin. It also sloughs off dead skin cells and reduces wrinkles. 

Active Ingredients: Purified water, PHA, Bladderwrack Extract, Vitamin C, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea. 

Usage Direction : Apply a layer after E-Sense Serum for best result. For night use only. 

Cefenere Fair Passion Clarifying Sunsield (RM149 for 8g) is a day cream with SPF30. Comes in white lotion texture, it absorb quickly as I applied. Very little quantity is needed as the texture is pretty thick. Was happy to see it did not leave a white cast on my skin and it was not greasy either. Face seem to be properly hydrated the whole day wearing this. Although it has SPF30 I would personally prefer to top up with another sunblock of SPF50 whenever I go out. 

Cefenere Fair Passion Ultralizing Cream (RM169 for 15g) is a night cream that has powdery scent. The texture is very thick & creamy. I was advice to use very very little and use immediately after applying E-serum so better absorption. I have tried applying without the serum and think that the the absorption took longer time and scent went off after a while. I like how I woke up the next morning and feel my skin feeling really soft & bouncy though I have been sleeping in air-conditioning room. 

Review of Cefenere Fair Passion Skincare Series :  After 7 days of usage, the first thing I discover is that my skin is well hydrated even I am spending long hours in air conditioning room. After a month of usage, my skin overall grew brighter. Thought there are still a lot of stubborn pigmentations, I could see it was lighten up by a little bit. Although their moisturiser are creamier than my usual one, it seems to work pretty well in boosting up my skin moisture without experiencing any breakout. Foundation seems to last better throughout the day. Honestly the product is quite effective and cost efficient as I only need to use very little for application.

#SomebodyLikeMe HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign

Each of us have the right to say NO to HIV/AIDS!

Last month I been posting some questions on my Facebook which to many this is a sensitive topic and someone even message and asked me why am I talking about it openly. Well the truth is I am participating with Durex’s #SOMEBODYLIKEME World AIDS Day Campaign to raise public awareness on how HIV can be contracted and what a young adult should know about sex protection. And I am glad to participate in this campaign because I have learn so much truth to clear my doubts on HIV/AIDS. It's 

The #SOMEBODYLIKEME Campaign is just the beginning and the common vision of a HIV/AIDS-free generation is only attainable if all of us ensure a continuous education process. 

And in the conjunction with World AIDS Day, Reckitt Benckiser’s Durex Malaysia (Durex) contributed RM8,000 and 50,000 pieces of Durex condoms to PT Foundation, Malaysia’s largest community-based HIV/AIDS organisation. The donations were raised in collaboration with retail giants Watsons Malaysia and Guardian Pharmacy Malaysia in support of PT Foundation’s on-going HIV/AIDS advocacy work and education programmes in Malaysia. 

The fundraising initiative was part of Durex’s #SOMEBODYLIKEME World AIDS Day Campaign. As part of the on-going charity drive, Durex has pledged to one piece of condom with every pack of Durex condoms purchased at Watsons and RM0.20 per pack purchased at Guardian was channelled to PT Foundation. #SOMEBODYLIKEME Campaign is month-long campaign launched on 15th November 2013 aimed at educating Malaysian youths on HIV/AIDS.

Over and above the fundraising effort, the #SOMEBODYLIKEME campaign also saw Durex working in collaboration with prominent social influencers on social media to educate youths on HIV/AIDS. Personalities including, Yang Berbahagia Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Niki Cheong, Reuben Kang, KlubbKidd KL aka Joe Lee, Audrey Pui Yan, Karena Cheow, Hanie Hidayah and Christopher Tock have been posting provocative statements and questions regarding HIV/AIDS on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blogs and YouTube, to encourage conversation among youths while reinforcing the fact that HIV/AIDS can infect and affect anyone, including ‘somebody like me'.

And as one of the social media influencers, I posted some questions in my Facebook on questions related to HIV/AIDS.

Surprisingly some of them are really open in sharing about their opinions. Though some are joking about this issues but the fact that they are willing to talk discuss about it is a good sign. To me this is a health issue that one need to be learn and need not be afraid because, with proper education and information we could protect ourselves.

Nelson Mandela dedicated his whole life improving the conditions and lives of children and youth which are affected HIV/AIDS. Although we may not be as influential as him but we can also take plays a part in creating a change and awareness. 

Mandela once said "It is in your hands to make a difference." 

Yes it's #SOMEBODYLIKEME and YOU that can make a difference for a better tomorrow!
