Check out my most comprehensive eye test in my life at Vision Space Optometrists

Recently Acuvue approached me to do review for their latest ACUVUE® ADVANCE® PLUS which is an all-new bi-weekly contact lenses with HYDRACLEAR® to provide optimum eye comfort for first time wearers. And before I was provided with the contact lens for review, I was invited to go try and tested contact lenses via an exclusive and personalized eye test session at Vision Space Optometrist in Damansara Utama. And I wanted to blog about this to share with you guys here about the importance of taking good care of our eyes and contact lens if you are wearing one!

This is Mr. Aw, a qualified Optometrist who attended me . And next he conducted the most comprehensive 2 hours eye test on me where I was being "educate" how to take care of my eyes. And it is truly an eye opening session for me.

First I did a vision test where, this is the most common eye check provided by most optical shop where it is used to evaluate eyesight. They measure the eye's ability to see details at near and far distances.

I looked kinda funny here :P

Looks like pirates eh !

And coming eye tests that I did can be done by a qualified Optometrist and not Optician, as an optometrist was qualified to examine eyes for defects or faults of refraction, and conduct tests such as measurement of visual acuity and refraction, visual field screening, and measuring intra-ocular pressure while Optician's job was to dispense spectacles as prescribed by the optometrists. However in Malaysia, we are lacked of Optometrist hence we can see that Optician are conducting the basic eye tests here. Read an interesting article here.

He started by using Slit Lamp Biomicroscope where it is used to screen eye's health condition at the front part of the eyes, whether is there any infection, swelling, dryness, injuries and etc.

I was kinda nervous when Mr. Aw did the test on me but immediately felt relief that when he told me that my front part of the eyes are pretty healthy! Phewwww.....

Look at the chart above, from the left (healthy) to the right (serious condition). Kinda scary when I looked into details this chart.

And according to Mr. Aw many people has serious eye problem because of the hygiene in handling contact lens and lack of oxygen in eyes after wearing contact lens. And he shared to me later how Acuvue Advance Plus is different from other contacts lens in the market because of the material they used. I will write about this a bit later!

Speaking about hygiene, do you know that we suppose to change the contact lens solution in the case every 2-3 days even when we are not wearing it so that would kill the gems!

Okay back to the eye test.Mr. Aw then used Keratometer, a machine which is used to measure the curvature for the cornea (which is the front transparent part of our eyes) which is essential in fitting in contact lenses so that we know which base curve lenses to wear.

And this is the first time I came to know that my eye's cornea base curve average is at 7.3mm. Also I realised that nowadays many optical shop just sell the contact lenses without giving any proper consultation and did not even asked what is my eyes base curve. And most of the time, the bigger base curve lenses was given to the buyers as these are the more common one.

For ACUVUE® ADVANCE® PLUS contact lenses with HYDRACLEAR® it comes with two different base curve for our eyes, one is 8.3mm and another is 8.7mm. And I should be getting the 8.3mm base curve one so that it fit perfectly on my small cornea eyes.

Next he used Tonometer , where it is used to measure the pressure of our eyes with a light air. And if there is high pressure in our eyes, there will be high risk that of glaucoma.

So what is Glaucoma?
It is an eye disorder in which the optic nerve suffers damage, permanently damaging vision in the affected eye(s) and progressing to complete blindness if untreated.

Normally eye pressure ranges from 10-21mmHg , and I was told I had 12mmHg and it's normal :)

Here comes the fun part where I was checked if I have colour blind.

Can you see the above number?

I got the first few page correctly without any problem

Until I was showed this and I was figuring out what is the number !

Can you see it ?

Actually there is no number in this picture, and this test is usually used on children to see if they are lying about colour blind.

And this is a Fundus/Retina Camera where it is used to capture photo at the back of our eyes (retina) to check for retina related diseases such as glaucoma, macular, degeneration, diabetes retinopathy, retinal tear and etc.

And if you have looked closer at the picture, you will actually see Canon DLSR camera was attached at this machine and I was told this machine price is equivalent to a new Honda City car (i.e roughly RM90k) . And usually you will see this super cool machine when you see an eyes specialist but here Vision Space also have one!

Check this out, my retina is pretty clear and no bleeding!

So yes I am glad I had a healthy eye condition inside out and my eyes are ready to wear contact lens any moment :)

And Mr. Aw a professional optometrist actually suggested Acuvue Advance Plus contact lens to me as the lenses material they used is Silicone H as supposed to Hydrogel which can give less than 20% oxygen to our eyes. Silicon H is a new material which can gives 90% of oxygen for contact lens user. And I will review Acuvue Advance Plus contact lens soon after I I have wear the bi-weekly lens for exactly 2 weeks.

Thank you Acuvue and Vision Space Optometrists for giving me this opportunity to know more about my eyes!

So stay tune people for next post for my review on Acuvue contact lens and meantime do go for your eye check like how I did to make sure your eyes are healthy and beautiful!

MANifesto.my- The Social Media Campaign for Women :100.

Daphne Iking , Low Ngai Yuen and Kal Joffres

2 weeks ago , I was invited to witness the launching of MANifesto.my at Actors's Studio, a campaign website that drive the call for support through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and blogs to create a network of supportive individuals and organizations in celebrating women and uniting their voices through the performing arts.

Their goal by collecting thousands of signatures on the MANifesto both online and through the Women:100 events organized by Kakiseni..

Tandemic's Director Kal Joffres said "In a year that marks 10o years of International Women's Day, Tandemic will assist Kakiseni to highlight women's issues through social media by enrolling the men, primarily, to engage to seven commitments that will make Malaysia a better place for women"

The MANifesto and MAXim will engage both men and women in a series of tasks that address issues commonly-faced by women. Both genders must work together to accomplih these tasks, sharing their accomplishment via the use of social media, and in so doing, Women : 100 hopes to stimulate healthy and productive discussion of women's issues.

After the launching , we are ushered to watch the showcasing of Life Sdn Bhd - 6: ABUSE.

Each of them got a story to tell, they are whether a survivor of an abuse or story are being told by their close friend who also had been a victim and survivor of abuse.

It is not easy to tell the public, how it really happened.

They had to recall the details of the incidents.

They talked about how had they been abused when they are a child.

I think by these times, our tears flow down to our cheek.

It is heartbreaking to hear how their parents, spouses, family and etc betray their love and abused them.

Its not easy for them to walk out from the nightmare.

This man said, not only human are being abused but animals also victim of abuse. And he actually managed to save a little puppy, victim of an abuse from being put to sleep at the PAWs centre.

All of them are winner. They are the brave survivor, indeed its not easy to share with the members of media their story. And yes I think most of them who are reading this are very fortunate to have a loving family.

And I hereby pledge to declare that I am against abuse in any form ( whether physical, oral ) . I am going to sign up by going to MANifesto website at www.manifesto.my by simplying up my name and email to complete form and share it on twitter and/or facebook!

So kindly support and give a minute or two to support for a good cause !!

What more , today is the 100th International Women's Day!

Happy Women's Day to all ladies out there!!

My October Sinful Haul !

I was just telling myself in the facebook on Sunday morning that I wanna to ban myself from shopping to save for my coming holiday tripsss in next year. A guy friend challenged that if I can try stop facebook-ing for 5 days continuously , then my 5 months shopping ban got hopes..While Anna straight said she don't believe I can do so.

I guess Anna was right.

Women are weak when it comes to shopping.

Especially where there is this super deal that no one can resist.

Die-die also want to go.

Sunday evening, I suggested my bf to go Midvalley to watch movie instead of Pavilion. When reach there went straight I went to Lewre. Busted, he said I came get the shoes rather than want come there for movies.. See how desperate am I !

So what makes me break my shopping woes !

Of course SHOES SHOES SHOES !!

If you been following for quite a while, you will know how much I am crazy about heels. (though now I dont wear them that much due to knee injury).

But still loves to wear them once a while.

So here is my sinful haul , from Lewre pre-renovation clearance in Midvalley last Sunday night. I went knowing that not much sizes and design left.

But pray hard I can find SOMETHING nice for myself!

And I DID !!

Managed to dig this sexy pair out from the pile of boxes that the SA told me that these are defect shoes. I checked few times, this pair is totally alright!!!

And got this green shoes heel as well! Just nice , as I do not own any green shoes yet !! My first one to match my green dress! Happy .

The promotion goes like this.

Normal heels : RM30/pair and RM50 for 2 pairs

Leather - RM70/pair

Selected heels : RM100 for 2 pairs.

Please remember that there are limited quantities in term of design and size. My bf told me s the first day of sale on Saturday that all the girls rushed in and snatched whatever is there. And Bf didnt want to tell me (which he claimed forgot ) about the sale until I found out from Jean !

Lewre is one of my favourite High heels brand , as its comfortable and suit my feet perfectly.

And something I am lusting for recently after I spotted them in the magazine!

I cant stop thinking about this , ever since I saw them... but keep asking myself do I need this! >.<

Charles & Keith lends support to Breast Cancer Foundation this September and October 2010, for the second consecutive year, with the sale of the limited edition PINK! collection to benefit women affected by breast cancer.

Dog is like Human too!

Day 1 : 10 Days No Shopping Challenge

Since I cant talk about shopping promotion and sales due to the commitment to the 10 Day No Shopping Challenge! Let me commit myself to my pledge in doing all my backlog post...

I saw this dog 2 weeks ago in Ampang while I was on the way for Ampang Yong Tau Fu. From far, this dog looked as if it is pregnant with something.....

Upon closer inspection by using my camera to zoom, I think the dog has tumor growth in his stomach probably... This is so sad, because I saw him walking really slow which might be due to this growth might be heavier than his actual weight. When we (human) feel pain, we can go and see doctor ourselves. What about this dog are tumor on his body which likely cancerous , and if this is a street dog, who will take care of them ?Probably this is a abandoned dog or street dog, but does he/she deserve a lesser treatment and right to live like human ? Dog is like human, they do feel sad, happy and pain especially if he/she having cancerous growth nowww.... I was thinking to call SPCA however the dog keep running away and away.. I don't dare to take it up, worry later the cancer burst or something and he/she will die straight away -_-! So maybe the DOG are enjoying his/her last few days or months of his life.....Hope he will survived... and this weekends I am going back to see if the dog is still around.. I will call SPCA this time around

I was trying get near the dog to see , however the dog avoid and running away (in a slow motion) I am so sad to see this ! Because I don't want this to happen to my Bebe and others less fortunate animals as well such as Cat and Buaya !!!!

Say hello my super cute and notty Bebe ! He is a detective , if you don't know why, click here to see why. My dog is totally like a human being except he barks rather than speaks, he is very smart and he loves nasi lemak with sambal as his breakfast! He will do anything for potato chips!!!

2)What is bladder weakness or urinary incontinence?
It is a slight loss of bladder control which might caused from excessive laughing, coughing, sneezing or exercising. 3)Why is this happening , is this abnormal ?
No this is extremely common as an estimated 1 in 4 adult women have experienced it at some time in their lives.

4)Can this be cured ?
Yes through surgery the fastest way, or in long term having a healthy lifestyle habits and doing pelvic floor exercises can help to cure too. However in the meantime people affected by this still need absorbent products like POISE.

6)According to Wikipedia, the man may also suffer from this !
